Dr. Lori Beth Bisbey is opening up in her latest newsletter about a profound personal shift, sharing how years of chronic illness, loss and recovery have reshaped her understanding of self-care as she looks ahead to 2026.
After living for decades with multiple autoimmune diagnoses while maintaining a full professional workload, Bisbey spent much of her adult life pushing through illness and exhaustion rather than slowing down. The past two years brought that pattern into sharp focus, beginning with the terminal illness and loss of her mother in late 2024, followed by major foot and ankle surgery in April 2025 that forced her into extended rest and recovery. The experience marked a turning point, reframing self-care not as indulgence but as a necessary practice for physical, emotional and spiritual longevity.
“Since the surgery, I have learned what rest really means. I have learned that sometimes self-care means doing nothing,” said Bisbey. “For me, self-care is about consistently doing the things that are necessary for my physical, emotional and spiritual health.”
Bisbey is sharing her story in the hope that others recognize the cost of constant overextension sooner rather than later. As she looks toward 2026, her focus is on presence, sustainability and building a life that allows for both service to others and genuine well-being.

Wisconsin Tiff is the featured guest on a new episode of host Kevin Ryan’s improv comedy podcast Tyrant in Training, “Dictating in a Diamond Bikini (with Wisconsin Tiff)”.
In the episode, Tiff steps fully into character as a self-declared ruler, imagining a fantasy island kingdom where she reigns as Goddess Tiffany, strutting in a crystal bikini or diamond gown and demanding devotion from her subjects. Asked about her leadership style, Tiff says, “I think that I… would be a great ruler. I would allow people to work for me… and worship me, naturally.” When Ryan presses further, her stance is clear: “As any good ruler should.”
